OSC Seeks International Partnerships to Establish Global SSA Network

The Office of Space Commerce is planning to collaborate with other countries to establish a global, coordinated system of space situational awareness providers and regional hubs that deliver SSA information to spacecraft operators.

According to Global Space Situational Awareness Coordination, a document distributed at the 39th Space Symposium, networks of international partnerships, including the commercial SSA sector worldwide, will support the centers.

The document indicates that an internationally coordinated system is necessary to protect spacecraft from potential conjunction events, SpaceNews reported.

The OSC is currently working to incorporate SSA data from public and private sectors into the Traffic Coordination System for Space to provide spacecraft operators worldwide with SSA information and services.

Speaking at the symposium, OSC Director Richard DalBello, however, said that the United States cannot solve space-related problems alone, noting that several countries are operating in international space.

According to the document, the TraCSS must be developed in coordination with other countries to ensure the system’s success.
