Deepak Kundal serves as the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s Chief Data Officer, a corporate-level leadership role within the CIO-T directorate. Named to the position in April 2019, Mr. Kundal is responsible for the agency’s overall data strategy, multi-fabric data platforms and storage capabilities. He leads the technical analysis of data sources to determine the optimal implementation approach, including parsing and Federal compliance regulation for Title 13 data. Mr. Kundal joined NGA after more than 30 years of progressive data strategy and architecture experience in the private sector, working for companies such as Hewlett Packard and Talk America. Most recently, he was the principal data strategist for a private firm that created advanced analytics solutions, including machine learning and text analytics, for Fortune 500 customers. His work enabled the rapid ingestion of new datasets without extensive modeling, the scaling of large datasets while delivering performance, and the tracking of data lineage to allow users to cleanse and process data iteratively. Mr. Kundal’s specialty is creating comprehensive enterprise data governance competency and instilling sound data governance business practices into the corporate culture. He is well-versed in guiding the full lifecycle of enterprise data stewardship, including requirements analysis, platform selection, technical architecture design, application design and development, testing and deployment. Mr. Kundal earned his bachelor’s degree from Delhi University in New Delhi, India.
