VP, C4ISR & UAS
Dr. Robert (Rob) Smith is Vice President of C4ISR & UAS in Lockheed Martin’s Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS) business area where he has profit and loss responsibility for more than $1 billion a year in revenue and more than 2000 employees. C4ISR & UAS is an industry leader providing a broad range of command and control products, capabilities, services, and systems development for all branches of the U.S. military, various national agencies, and numerous international customers. In addition, the C4ISR & UAS business develops, and provides sustainment services for, a number of Unmanned Aircraft Systems, including platform, mission package, and control software. Previously, Dr. Smith was Vice President, Space and Cyber for IS&GS-Defense. In this role, Dr. Smith led a line of business with profit and loss responsibility for $1 billion per year in revenue and over 3,200 employees with operations in cyber, communications, navigation, launch and space superiority, space and nuclear command and control, electronic warfare, and missile defense. He held this position from November 2012 through December 2013. Prior to that, Dr. Smith served as Lockheed Martin’s Cyber Executive. In this role, Dr. Smith was responsible for leading the commercial cyber initiatives across the Corporation. He was responsible for operations, strategy, business growth, investments, advertising, marketing, and played a critical role in assessing Mergers and Acquisitions. Dr. Smith has also served as Director of Collections and Operations where he had profit and loss responsibility for a division predicated on computer network operations and signals intelligence supporting the intelligence community. In addition, he served as a program manager for critical national security programs. Dr. Smith was also Director of Nanosystems for Lockheed Martin’s Space Systems Company. Prior to joining Lockheed Martin, Dr. Smith was the Vice President of Nantero’s Government Business Unit when it was acquired by Lockheed Martin. He was also Director at Windermere in Annapolis, Md., and Tampa, Fla., where he led businesses focused on the intelligence and special operations communities. Prior to entering the private sector, Dr. Smith was a civil servant at the National Security Agency where he held various engineering and leadership positions culminating with an executive selection. Dr. Smith graduated Cum Laude from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemical Engineering. He received a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemical Engineering from Auburn University in addition to receiving a Master’s in Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Smith has received many distinguished awards, including Lockheed Martin’s NOVA award for technical innovation. Dr. Smith has multiple publications and awarded patents. He is an Eagle Scout, a member of Tau Beta Pi and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Societies, the Metro Denver Board of Governors, and the AFCEA International’s Executive Committee.
