Saleela Khanum Salahuddin is a national security lawyer and policy advisor who serves as Artificial Intelligence Policy and Governance Lead at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. In this role, she collaborates across the Intelligence Community to develop, implement, and integrate artificial intelligence policies and governance requirements, with a focus on accountability and transparency. Saleela regularly speaks and counsels on regulatory and legislative national security and technology developments and facilitates government, tech, and civil society discussions.
At both the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, Saleela has advanced work at the intersection of intelligence collection, privacy, and civil liberties in established and emerging technologies and AI/machine learning applications.
In the tech sector, Saleela served as Cybersecurity Policy Lead at Facebook (now Meta). Saleela analyzed security threats and developed and implemented global policies, products, and practices to keep the platform’s billions of worldwide users safe. Saleela managed a global portfolio and was a leader for the company's cybersecurity policy updates, manipulated and synthetic media policy development, end user security protections, and tech and government collaboration, as well as advised on cyber-related law and policy developments around the world.
Saleela was previously an attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice and served as Counsel to the Chairman of the United States Senate Judiciary Committee, where she was a core member of a bipartisan effort that drove enactment of a critical intelligence authority.
Saleela is a summa cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College and Yale Law School and served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable J. Frederick Motz at the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. An Arizona native, she is married to a computer scientist and fellow Arizonan, and is the proud mother of three daughters.
