Marine Corps Information Command Focuses on Improving Information Use
The Marine Corps Information Command is leading the military branch to make the most of the information environment.
Established in January 2023, MCIC integrates the service’s information forces into a theater with the broader joint force. It was created because the service has noticed a need for a common operational environment, a significant factor in ensuring the successful integration of data from a variety of sources.
MCIC also provides the armed forces with an overview of the activities of tactical information forces, including the Marine Expeditionary Force Information Groups, DefenseScoop reported.
In a recent interview, Maj. Gen. Ryan Heritage, commander of Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace and Marine Corps Forces Space Command, said information is playing a vital role in the battle. He added that having the correct tools is vital to dissecting information in an ever-changing environment.
Information has been an area being considered by the Marine Corps for years. The service disclosed the Marine Corps Doctrinal Publication-8, Information in June 2022. The document laid down the importance of information as a warfighting tool and helped the service improve its work related to the National Defense Strategy.
