Hon. Erik Raven
Under Secretary of the Navy Hon. Erik Raven kicked off last year’s Navy Summit with an update on multiple Navy programs. Here are just a few initiatives he discussed:
- The Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program
- The AUKUS security pact between the U.S., Australia and UK
- Efforts to build relationships with private sector organizations
- The Marine Corps’ Force Design 2030 modernization strategy
RADM Fred Pyle
Rear Adm. Fred Pyle, director of the Navy’s Surface Warfare Division, N96, discussed the intersection of Department of Defense-wide strategies with Navy-specific plans and the ways in which they jointly inform the Navy’s technology development endeavors. Some of his comments touched on:

- The DDG(X) guided missile destroyer

Jane Rathbun
DON Chief Information Officer Jane Rathbun followed Pyle with a deep dive into the Navy’s Flank Speed cloud platform, a secure environment for collaboration and file story across the service branch. During her speech, she highlighted multiple Navy goals Flank Speed could support:

- Cyber readiness
Capt. Casey Plew
Capt. Casey Plew, who served as director of NavalX before stepping down earlier this year, wrapped up the 2023 Navy Summit by providing a glimpse into the ways in which the organization is driving collaborative innovation within the service branch. Here are some areas he touched on:
- The Centers for Adaptive Warfighting
- Cultivating relationships with local governments and the finance community
- The Navy’s Unmanned Task Force
