Army Stresses Need for Cloud, Announces $800M Investment Plan
Senior Army officials have underscored the importance of establishing cloud architecture and services within the service.
Army Secretary and 2020 Wash100 winner Ryan McCarthy and Army Chief of Staff James McConville told the Senate Armed Services Committee that cloud technology is the foundation of the Army's entire modernization effort.
They announced that the Army plans to invest $800M in cloud architecture over the next five years, MeriTalk reported Thursday.
The project will allow the cloud migration of the Army's data, data inventory and software development efforts, they added.
Sens. James Inhofe and Jack Reed also gave statements during the hearing, which was held on paper due to the coronavirus outbreak.
