Artificial Intelligence-Based Breast Cancer Detection Tool Wins GSA Health Care Award

ProFound AI Breast Suite, a breast cancer detection tool built by iCAD using deep-learning artificial intelligence that rapidly analyzes 3D mammography images and detects both malignant soft tissue densities and calcifications, was one of the four grand prize winners in the U.S. General Services Administration’s AI Healthcare Challenge. The competition was launched early in 2023 to seek diverse and practical solutions to help improve medical care provided by federal agencies, iCAD said.

Icad President and CEO Dana Brown said ProFound AI’s breast cancer screening and detection technology has been granted an authorization to operate in Department of Defense health care facilities for use by military service members, retirees and family members. The department’s Risk Management Framework provides stringent cybersecurity prevention thresholds and mandates that only ATO-granted technologies must be used at DOD health care facilities. Brown said women should have access to ProFound AI considering that breast cancer affects one in eight women.
