NOAA to Modernize Environmental Intelligence Capabilities With New Enterprise System
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced the release of a broad agency announcement on Friday seeking information on the models, features and capabilities of an enterprise information processing system to expand the use of environmental intelligence for improved weather climate resilience.
The agency’s planned system is envisioned to be an interoperable knowledge graph ecosystem or knowledge mesh of process-contextualized, semantically enabled facts.
The BAA follows an earlier-issued Earth Observation Digital Twin sources-sought notice issued in September 2022, NOAA .gov reported.
The U.S. weather agency has rolled out several modernization initiatives in recent months. In September, it tapped Raytheon to help upgrade its water resources prediction capabilities under a four-year, $80 million task order, which entails migrating the capability to the cloud and improving its decision-making and damage mitigation capabilities.
It also entered into a partnership with Alpha Omega Integration in January for the long-term storage and dissemination of critical environmental information, making valuable data available for stakeholders.
